Milford Sound Backpacker Accommodation Options
Milford Sound Lodge no longer offers backpacker accommodation.
For many years, Milford Sound Lodge offered dormitory-style accommodation and tent sites. In 2019, the lodge underwent a major renovation and we closed our dorm rooms to make way for a completely renovated restaurant and lounge area as well as a stunning collection of luxury chalets.
While you no longer have the option of staying in backpacker accommodation at the lodge, you can choose to stay in our tranquil campervan site instead or upgrade to a night in a chalet.

There are currently no backpacker, dorm-style accommodation options in Milford Sound. However, you do have some options here at the lodge:
Milford Sound Lodge’s Rainforest Campervan Park
Milford Sound’s only campground offers powered campervan sites amongst the rainforest. Your stay includes access to our 24-hour kitchen, guest lounge and laundry.

Upgrade to a Milford Sound Lodge Chalet

If you would prefer budget accommodation options near Milford Sound, you have two options within the area.
Eglinton Valley Camp
Located between Milford Sound and Te Anau, Knob’s Flat offers studio units and campsites. Approximately 1-hour drive from Milford Sound.
Lone Moose Backpackers
Private rooms and dorm rooms located on the edge of Lake Te Anau. The Lone Moose is located near the departure point for the Milford Track, approximately 30 kilometres from Te Anau.
Other Accommodation
A range of accommodation is available in Te Anau, approximately two hours from Milford Sound.
